The Woodlot on Lasqueti Island
Natural Living—island Style!
A joint project between HLD and one of Canada’s premier foresters has resulted in these landmark 10 acre parcels on beautiful Lasqueti Island. Peter Pearse has had a long history on the island, contributing significant tracts of high-value land to public and conservation use.
HLD worked with Peter to realize his dream of maintaining his award-winning woodlot while making the land available for others to own and enjoy. Intensive liaison with Islands Trust, the Agricultural Land Commission, Nature of Trust of BC and the Ministry of Transport resulted in a very low impact alteration of the lands, retaining the natural features while creating a legacy for himself and his family.

Rethinking hillside living!
A challenging site gave rise to the need for some innovative solutions. Steep slopes make access difficult, but the views are spectacular! HLD's idea for 'redesigning the conventional road’ resulted in a whole new concept for accessing sloping land. The terraced lots of OVT with the unique stepped road that serves them are designed for people first. Perfect access to the views combined with great pedestrian comfort has created a unique community that sets a new standard in Nanaimo.
